“I am in so much pain, sitting at a mortuary waiting for my son's post-mortem yet my son’s killers are sitting for their national examination in a police cell.”

This was the only statement made by Ngugi Muchiri, father to slain Shiner Boys Candidate, Vincent Ngugi Muchiri, before he broke down, overwhelmed by emotions.

As the father of two sat on a wooden chair outside the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, he gazed at the mortuary signage and family members who had accompanied him as he waited for his son’s post-mortem report.

As the family stepped into the autopsy room, he stood up from the seat to view his son’s body but did not stay in the room to witness the post-mortem being done.

Once it was done, Mtaa Wangu reached out to the government pathologist Titus Ngulungu to establish the findings.

In a phone interview, Mr Ngulungu says the 18-year-old died from excessive bleeding from the stab wound to the chest.

"In my opinion, the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest injuring the heart, causing excessive bleeding. The body had two stab wounds, one in the chest which went through the heart while the other one was on the left side of the abdomen damaging the abominable wall forcing the intestines out of the body,” he says.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Muchiri’s uncle, Sedrick Shazia, says that his nephew died from a stab wound to his heart, contrary to the report that he had only been stabbed in the abdomen.

After witnessing the post-mortem, Mr Shanzi said that the government pathologist informed them that Muchiri succumbed from the knife stab that went through his chest to his heart.

“The pathologist says the second wound on his abdomen would have been contained if he received medical attention. However, the knife to his heart was extensive causing his death,” he says.

Mr Shanzia described Muchiri as a boy who was quite invested in tech innovation and was aspiring to fly abroad to learn or work there, precisely in Dubai, a country he says his nephew admired.

On the other hand, Muchiri’s aunt, Josephine Kamonya, says that the death of Muchiri has been a big blow to the parents, seeing that he had a lot of plans for his mother once he was done with school.

“As a family we are here to support Muchiri's parents during this hard time as they mourn one of their two sons who had a promising future ahead of him. We are yet to make funeral arrangements; However, all ask for is justice to be served,” she says.

Muchiri was stabbed in school on Saturday November 9,2024, after being involved in a fight with fellow students who allegedly stabbed him. He succumbed to his injuries while on his way to the hospital.
