A form four student succumbed to stab wounds in Shiners Boys high school following a fight about the contents of his box being stolen on Saturday night.

According to the principal John Mwangi, Vincent Ngugi Muchiri, was stabbed on his lower belly by one of the students.

“It was around 8pm and the students were preparing to go to class for their night preps, when we heard screams from the dormitory side. Upon arrival, I was shocked to find Muchiri on the ground. His intestines had gashed out of his stomach,” he narrates.

Other than Muchiri, the principal says another student was also stabbed on his thigh next to Muchiri.

Seeing the magnitude of the injuries, he immediately sought private means and rushed the two to hospital.

“Muchiri died on our way to hospital and was declared dead at the hospital. The other student received treatment getting eight stitches on his wounds and was allowed back to school,” Mr Mwangi says.

At the school, our presence raised tension among the students and parents who had arrived to check on their sons.

The principal explains that the root cause of the fight was that four candidates who had come back to school  from a two-week suspension found one of their metal boxes broken into and their items stolen.

Mr Mwangi notes that preliminary investigations established that the four were charged up and wanted all the missing items to be paid for or they would seek revenge. That was when the fight that led to Muchiri’s death broke out.

Also present at the school was Eunice Nyaboke, a parent to one of the students in the school.

She says she received a distress call around 1am from his son who was crying, sharing that he was distressed after witnessing a fight in the school that led to the death of one student.

She notes her son was calling from an unknown number and when asked where he got the phone he said had borrowed it from a staff member in the school.

Unable to hold back her tears she says, “It is quite unfortunate that a parent has put a child through school and they are killed before they can see the result of their hard work. All we can do now is to pray for our children because this traumatic event can shake them up, especially now during their national examination.”

Ms. Nyaboke requested the school management to beef up security in the school and ensure students safety until they clear their exams.

According to Gilgil Sub county Deputy County Commissioner, Willy Cheboi, three students are already in police custody and will be helping police with investigations.

He notes that the matter has been handed over to detectives from DCI for investigations and they are hopeful that the culprit will soon be arrested for justice to take its course.

Efforts by Mtaa Wangu to reach the family were unsuccessful as Muchiri's parents phone was not going through.

Muchiri’s body was taken to Nakuru county mortuary.
