Fresh details have emerged in the tragic stabbing incident at Shiners Boys High School that claimed the life of a Form Four student.

Following initial reports of the death yesterday, police have brought in four additional suspects, bringing the total number in custody to eight.

This is according to Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander, Winston Mwakio, who in a phone interview also states, that the murder weapon has not yet been recovered, and the investigation into how it made its way into the school is ongoing.

“When the incident happened, the boys ran in all directions. It's possible the murder weapon was either returned to where it was originally kept, which is not in the school dormitory or someone took it and threw it outside the school compound,” Mwakio explains. “Unfortunately, we still have not located the weapon.”

The victim, Vincent Ngugi Muchiri, was fatally stabbed in the lower belly by one of the students, and another boy who was standing next to Muchiri was also injured, with a stab wound to his thigh.

“We have not yet determined where the weapon came from, but we suspect it was a sharp object, possibly a knife,” Mwakio adds.

The police have now taken four more suspects into custody, including the boy who was injured in the thigh. These suspects were apprehended on November 10, bringing the total to eight.

Mwakio confirms that the suspects are cooperating with the investigation, and leads from other students have been helpful.

He says the students are currently being held at a special exam centre set up at the police station, where they are continuing their exams under supervision.

“Once the investigation is complete, the suspects will be taken to court,” Mwakio says.

Meanwhile, Mtaa Wangu reached out to the family of Vincent Ngugi Muchiri, and his parents requested for more time to process the devastating loss of their son, before speaking to the press.
