Governor Kihika explains her absence: A bundle of joy
After a two-month absence, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has revealed what has kept her away from official duties and public appearances.
In a statement released to newsrooms, Governor Kihika says she is on maternity leave and will resume work in a few weeks.
"Following numerous calls I have received regarding my absence, I would like to assure the people of Nakuru that I am well and currently on maternity leave," read part of the statement.
"While I thank the people of Nakuru for their concern, I wholeheartedly assure them that service delivery in our great county is progressing as planned under the able leadership of the team led by the Deputy Governor, H.E. David Kones. I have no doubts whatsoever of H.E. Kones leading them in my absence."
Ms Kihika was last seen in public on November 18, 2024. The statement ends months of speculation about the governor's whereabouts.
During the Christmas holidays, the First Gentleman, Sam Mburu, was seen carrying on the family Christmas tradition alone.
The governor had earlier, on December 22, 2024, posted pictures of the preparations on Facebook.
The post showed the First Gentleman along with Deputy Governor David Kones and County Secretary Dr Samuel Mwaura distributing food items to residents in Mosop and Kiamaina wards.
However, Governor Kihika was conspicuously absent from the photographs.
The Deputy Governor also addressed the residents during the event on behalf of the Governor.
