March 13, 2024, is the date Boniface Kinya, popularly known as Hush BK, will never forget—it marks the day he gave his life to Christ.

Hush narrates that it all started when he was invited to attend a Wednesday prayer service at AIC Shabab.

"I got an invite from my friend to accompany him for a mid-week prayer service. I was particularly moved by the sermon that day and so during the altar call (an announcement for people who want to be born-again) I made the decision to give my life to Christ," he says.

Needless to say, Hush BK confesses that his life has drastically changed since his salvation, while describing the transition as remarkably smooth.

"When I made the decision, I was mentally prepared for things to change. But I’m grateful that I’ve managed to transition seamlessly while staying relevant in the entertainment industry," he shares.

Hush notes that his friends and family were very supportive to ensure he doesn't go back to the old habits of partying and drinking alcohol

"The support and community I plugged into after has been very significant in ensuring I don't fall off the wagon. To this day the support has been immense," he says.

Following his decision, Hush recalls how he had to cancel four scheduled events.

“While some organizers respected my choice, others did not saying the notice issued was short.”

Asked about losing friends who mostly comprised his party clique, Hush says that it was inevitable since they are on different paths.

"After getting saved, I lost friends who I used to hang out with. I lost about 80 percent of my friends since we could no longer meet in clubs like we used to. Evidently, we were on different paths which is understandable," he notes

Hush now uses his platform to spread the Gospel, hoping to get more people to accept Christ

To align with his new path, he shifted his focus to hosting and performing at weddings, corporate events, and gospel-related shows.

"I had to put in extra effort to secure gigs, but I’m grateful for the network that supported me. I also provide sound systems for various events, which has helped me sustain my career and stay afloat in business," he adds.

His move into the events industry has also seen him venture into event planning, further solidifying his presence in the industry.

It seems all this hard work has paid off, as he was recently awarded Best MC of the Year at the Nakuru Entrepreneur Awards 2024.

"Receiving the award was a recognition and appreciation of my work and winning it was a huge honour," he says.

On the music front, Hush BK says he has released three gospel songs on YouTube and is currently working on an EP with Mimah Shafie.

While his passion for music started nearly a decade ago, inspired by his father, a Taarab singer, Hush BK has built a strong reputation in Nakuru’s music scene, becoming a household name in the entertainment industry.

His journey is proof that reinvention is always possible.
