If you’re a Nakuru native, you probably remember the electric atmosphere of Winners Chapel Shabab’s Sunday concerts or the exhilarating performances by dance crews like Holy Squad and Code 07.

Those were the days when gospel music not only entertained, but also ignited a passion for faith among teens and young adults.

Reflecting on my own upbringing, I can’t help but recall how these concerts drew us in, with performances that inspired us and songs that resonated deeply.

Remember Jemimah Thiongo’s ‘Akisema atakubariki’ and ‘Fundi wa Mbao’ by Gospel fathers which were big in the 2000s?

Harnessing that nostalgia, Starehe Entertainment and the dynamic gospel singer/MC Hush Bk are bringing an exciting new event dubbed Sunday Skool.

This event is all about taking you back to the cherished moments of your childhood, celebrating the gospel music that shaped our lives.

In a phone interview with Mtaa Wangu, Hush Bk shared his passion for this concept, emphasizing its significance.

"This isn’t just another event. It's a revival of the vibrant gospel culture we once enjoyed," he expressed.

He says coming in for the first time as an MC in a gospel-oriented event, this is something that excites him.

“As an MC stepping into this space for the first time, I’m excited to show that the journey of salvation can be lively and engaging. The vision behind Sunday Skool is clear: create an inclusive, family-friendly event where everyone can revel in the joy of gospel music without judgment,” says Hush.

Starehe Ent CEO, Steve Muturi alias Stido, echoes this sentiment, inviting families to join in.

He explains that they chose a Sunday afternoon to accommodate those coming from church, making it an easy transition to an uplifting experience.

“While Starehe Ent entertainment runs Oldies & Soul event, Sunday Skool is a stand-alone event that will be happening quarterly. This event allows parents to come in with their children and have a good time. Children under 14 will enter for free, while adults will enjoy the event at Sh 500 entry fee,” he notes

Additionally, he notes that liquor will be available at the host venue, but encourages those attending to try and keep it from the main event since children will be present at the event.

Other than that Stidos mentions that children will also have fun activities going on in the background as the event goes on.

The inaugural Sunday Skool will be on November 3rd at Eldorado Rustic, from 1 PM to 8 PM, with DJ Reignherd and DJ Teemoh on the decks.
