Oldies and soul event evokes nostalgia for Nakuru's '80s and '90s babies
Nakuru has always had an epic night life, with clubs filling up with revellers all seeking to enjoy good music and have a good time.
With all the hype going around, what has been missing was a good spot to chill and vibe to throwback music, what is mostly refer to “zilizopendwa.”
Setting its stage by the pool with a live band on, Starehe entertainment, hooked 80’s and 90’s babies with the Oldies and soul by the pool.
Whether one had moves coming along as a pro or an armature the space was radiating with good vibes with zero judgment.
Top on the decks was Dj Reignherd who got people on their feet while Nakuru’s house hold band Tamasha blew the roof away.
Sharing how thrilled she was, Terry a resident from Naivasha noted that she had a thrilling evening as four of her favourite songs were played live.
“Listening to these songs on some headphones and jamming to them live is so different. I enjoyed my evening listening to old-school music,” she said.
Setting the crowd on a speed quiz, Mc Meso engaged the audience on childhood songs that were highly rated back in the days.
While the expectation was to have a crowd of old folks in attendance, the crowd had a blend of young stars and old folks streaming in at Hill court resort for the event.
Mbunge aliye Parara noted that his favourite song of the day was Nyumba za Tumbako by Daudi Kabaka whereas Caroline Waithera said she enjoyed listening to the band play Sexual healing by singer Marvin Gaye .
According to Steve Muturi, the event organizer who doubles up as the CEO at Starehe entertainment, the Oldies concept was formed since he missed the old days when Nakuru would hold karaoke nights for people to jam to old school music.
It was then that he decided to recreate the scene where people could enjoy old school music.
“We did not know that people looked forward to have a space where they enjoyed songs from back in the day. I started this just to feed my need for good old days music. However, this has turned into a community of people who want join in on the monthly oldies and souls event,” he says.
On the other hand, Hill court resort, director Kevin Kagwe, noted that there was something special with old school music, adding that it was lovely to see the crowd having so much fun at the event.
