Known in Nakuru as Splash, drinking joints within the estates are rapidly gaining popularity.

Something notably unique with them is that they are changing the clubbing dynamic in town.

The Splash joints are decent enough to accommodate the haves and have nots, not forgetting their great authentic appeal and the availability of several stalls, leaving you spoilt for choices on where to drink from.

Their proximity to one’s home, or what some call ‘within staggering distance’ allows lovers of the bottle to honour the call of Parte after Parte.

Speaking to Mtaa Wangu, Patrick Njuguna, notes that he frequents the joints because they have some privacy to them.

“I stand corrected but Nakuru has two popular clubs that are a go to for residents and those visiting. This means chances of you bumping into people you know are very high, sparking conversations and interaction,” he says sneering.

He further notes that at times his social battery is low and all he wants is to enjoy his drink and go home. For him, he gets to do this at the countless Splash spots around town adding that it would be hard to predict where he drinks next.

“I don’t like the comments that people make in regards to partying like, ‘Yeye hukunywa 7D huwezi mkosa uko’. It’s a great club I agree. However, I don’t want my party life to be that predictable,” he notes.

Something to note is that the popularity of Splash skyrocketed during the Covid pandemic, after major clubs were closed and people sought solace in local joints.

According to Chris, a reveller who frequents a Splash at Upper hill estate, the good feel of splashes did not wane after the pandemic, thus becoming a go to for many.

Additionally, he says many might be taking a liking to estate Splash joints since they are not strict on the age issue.

“There is the thing with big clubs and its bouncers asking for an ID if you look young. However, this never happens at estate joints. Moreover, the drinks are pocket friendly therefore accommodating folks from all walks of life,” he says.
