The lifeless body of a 30-year-old woman has been found in a maize plantation near Baraka settlement.

The woman, identified as Vera Mugambi, is believed to have been murdered by unknown assailants.

According to Joash Onchoke, the uncle of the deceased, Vera's day started like any other with her serving meals to casual labourers popularly known as watu wa mjengo in Baraka Estate in Kiamunyi.

Throughout the day, she would make her daily rounds to her regular customers and later at around 5pm, she would go to collect her payment as was the custom.

After collecting her payment, she called it a day and headed to lower Kiamunyi, the Mustard Seed area, where she lives with her husband and two children.

Instead of taking the longer route, she decides to go through the maize plantation as it is a much shorter route and would get her home much faster.

It was here that the 30-year-old met her untimely death at the hands of unknown assailants, brutally murdered on her way home from work.

"I heard the sad news this morning and after alerting some of my friends at Menengai Police Station, I made my way from the city centre to Baraka Estate and then to the scene," Mr Onchoke says.

" When I arrived at the scene, I found a large crowd of people. I did not have the courage to go and see my niece's lifeless body, so I just stood at a distance and watched as the police came and took her lifeless body away," he says.

Rongai Sub-County Director of Criminal Investigations Donnata Otieno says the matter was brought to their attention by the husband, Elisha Otieno.

On arrival at the scene, officers found the deceased with multiple injuries to the face and head caused by a sharp object.

"The body was taken to PNN Funeral Home for post-mortem examination. We have started investigations into the incident," Ms Otieno says.
This incident comes a month after the tragic death of Eileen Cherotich, who was murdered.
