Two people have died following a plane crash at Kedong Ranch in Naivasha Sub-County.

According to a statement from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), the incident occurred at around 5pm when a Cessna 185 aircraft with registration 5Y-BVL was en route to Mbaruk after departing from Wilson Airport.

The Director General of KCAA, Emile Arao, states that the authority is working with relevant authorities and is actively investigating the cause of the crash to gather more details and assist in response efforts.

The type of aircraft involved has been identified as a Cessna 185, registration 5Y-BVL, whose crash was reported to the Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) by a member of the public.

Mtaa Wangu contacted Naivasha Sub-County Deputy Police Commander Justus Katana, who believes the deceased were a husband and wife, but they are yet to identify them.

"There were only two occupants on board and their bodies have been taken to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital for post-mortem examination. It took us just over six hours to get to the crash site, but we were finally able to recover the bodies," Mr Katana says.

The wreckage of the plane, he says, has still not been removed from the site.

"The two occupants were trapped in a valley, which made their rescue and recovery efforts a bit problematic, but we succeeded," says Mr Katana.
