A section of Nakuru Members of County Assembly (MCAs) is threatening to impeach County Secretary Dr Samuel Mwaura for failing to honour their invitations to answer questions on county affairs.

According to county assembly majority leader Alex Langat, trouble started when Dr Mwaura failed to attend three committee meetings he was invited to.

Members say it has reached a point where they feel disrespected by the county secretary, hence they are contemplating impeachment as he is the head of the public service and therefore bears the brunt of everything.

"As the Speaker of the Assembly, when we take decisions as a House, I always come out clearly and make a press statement but at the moment I have not made any official comment on this but these are the wishes of some members," Mr Langata said.

"The county secretary has not been attending some meetings and that is the source of all this trouble and the reason why they want to impeach him," he said.

The county assembly majority leader, however, continues to defend Dr Mwaura, saying the calls were only invitations and not summons.

A person, he says, can choose to honour an invitation or not and the truth of the matter is that they never summoned the county secretary but they invited not only him but also some County Executive Committee Members (CECM) and Chief Officers (CO).

"An invitation is more informal, so if we invite you and you don't turn up, we are now making it formal and giving you a summons. The allegations are that he does not take calls and does not come to meetings," he said.

Mr Langat, however, echoes the sentiments of his fellow MCAs and says he is also displeased that members of the executive are not honouring invitations from the assembly.

"By not turning up for the invitations, they are disrupting the work of the County Assembly whose main role is to oversee the Nakuru County government," he said.
