Post-mortem confirms missing Njoro toddler died from drowning

Two year old Prince Nathan who went missing in Kariobangi, Njoro since Monday September 8,2025.
A post-mortem examination has confirmed that two-year-old Prince Nathan, who went missing in Njoro earlier this month, died from drowning.
He disappeared from his family’s home in Kariobangi on September 8, 2025. His body was found floating in River Ndarugu on September 28, by a woman and her children who were washing clothes on the riverbank.
Njoro Sub-County Police Commander Stanley Koech said that the autopsy, which was conducted on had established that the toddler had drowned and had shown no signs of strangulation.
“The autopsy results indicate drowning as the cause of death. Now that the post-mortem is complete, we will forward the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for advice,” Mr Koech told Mtaa Wangu.
He confirmed that there are currently no suspects under investigation, although the child’s father, who was detained earlier as a person of interest, was released after the 14-day detention period authorised by the court expired.
“Now that the body has been recovered, we will meet with DCI officers and resume the case,” Mr Koech says.
The child’s mother, Jane Kariuki, was too overwhelmed with emotions to attend the autopsy, but she later confirmed her son’s identity at Egerton Mortuary. She explained that Nathan’s body was badly decomposed when it was retrieved, which made visual recognition difficult.
“I could only recognise him by the pink turtleneck and socks he had been wearing the day he went missing,” she said, holding back tears.
The family is now awaiting further guidance from the authorities while the investigation into the child’s disappearance and death continues.
