Spoken word king Willie Oeba has come out strongly to condemn the takeover of War Memorial hospital by Nakuru’s county administration, over claims that the directors had forged an extension of the lease.

Using his platform on X, Oeba blamed Governor Susan Kihika for the closure of the hospital.

In a section of his tweet, Oeba says, “Nakuru hakuna hospitali. I weep for Nakuru.”

Although this tweet immediately attracted engagement from Nakuru residents, it was the Governor’s response that excited netizens.

In her tweet, Kihika did not mince her words, noting that she had noticed Oeba’s comments before.

“You have been dying for my attention since I see you tag me in your little emotional poems,” the Governor says, before proceeding to say that war memorial was grabbed by people who fraudulently forged a lease.

In a rebuttal, Oeba tweeted, “Gladly na hizo ‘emotional poems’ I perform, unlike you.”

This was the first time Nakuru witnessed a public altercation between a resident and the Governor since she came into office.

But this is not the only ‘first’ for Nakuru. On Friday, Nakuru saw the first ever X space organised to discuss the status of the leadership in the county.

For three hours, 500 people joined in, discussing issues around governance.

The hottest topic was the lack of accountability when it comes to the use of public funds, with most people agreeing that revenue is being collected but tracing how it was utilized is the main challenge.

The attendees also noted that it is cumbersome to access information from the County Government.

On the flip side, some of those who spoke lauded the Governor for continuing with some of the projects from the previous regime.

Mtaa Wangu has learnt that the residents, majorly young people, are planning another X Space, and hope that the County’s CECs and the Governor will be in attendance to answer burning questions around the use of monies allocated to various projects.

It seems the spirit of seeking accountability is being devolved from the National government, to the county governments.
