Police in Nakuru are investigating a man believed to have been masquerading as a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer.

According to Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Anthony Keter, Gabriel Mwangi, alias David Mwangi, drove to the Naivasha police station in his vehicle dressed in full KDF uniform at around 1pm on May 7. He asked to see the Officer Commanding Station (OCS).

Mr Mwangi had reportedly come to the station to report the loss of his military identity card. The matter was treated with urgency and a statement was immediately taken.

However, during the debriefing process, one of the officers noticed inconsistencies in Mr Mwangi's answers regarding where, how and under what circumstances the military ID had been lost.

This raised suspicions.

As the officer asked more questions, Mr Mwangi's answers became increasingly contradictory. This led the officers to detain him and conduct a background check, which revealed that he was not a KDF officer.

A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed two more sets of KDF uniforms.

"The individual claimed to be a sergeant and wanted to report the loss of his military ID card in order to obtain a police report and get a replacement from his office," says Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Anthony Keter.

"The matter is under investigation and we will take him to court on a miscellaneous application to seek more time for further investigations," he says.
