"The fire started at a furniture showroom and spread to Graceland Business Complex and was first reported by a neighbour who saw the flames and alerted the owner," said Rongai Sub-County Police Commander Cecilia Kemboi.

Other businesses affected include a salon, a cyber cafe, a clothes shop, a nail spa and a barber shop.

"We received a call from the owner of the furniture shop at about 12:30 am informing us of the incident. Despite the quick response of the fire brigade with the help of neighbours, they were unable to save anything," she said, adding that no one was injured and no lives were lost.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire brigade arrived in time to contain the fire.
