The Nakuru County Government is set to hold a mass burial for thirteen unclaimed bodies that have exceeded their holding period at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital's mortuary.
In a notice dated November 12, 2025, the county issued a 21-day public notice to families and relatives to claim the bodies of their deceased loved ones.
According to the hospital’s medical superintendent, the bodies have remained unclaimed for more than 21 days, which poses operational and public health concerns.
The hospital has invited next of kin, relatives and friends, or any other individuals with relevant information, to visit the facility and identify or collect the bodies before the notice period expires.
A review of the mortuary register shows that ten of the bodies belong to identified individuals, while three remain unidentified. Of the identified cases, the deceased include eight males and two females who were admitted to the facility between March and July 2025.
They were brought in from various locations, including Naivasha Main Prison, Maai Mahiu Health Centre, Naivasha Traffic and different police stations across the sub-county.
The notice also highlights three unidentified bodies: two male adults and one female torso.
The two unknown male adults were brought in by patrol officers from Maai Mahiu Police Station and Naivasha Police Station, while the unidentified female was delivered by Naivasha Police.
If no one comes forward within 21 days, the hospital will be compelled to proceed with a mass burial at Naivasha Public Cemetery in Longonot once all legal protocols have been satisfied.
