Nakuru County Public Health department has announced plans to dispose off 38 adult bodies and 50 infants within 21 days that have remained unclaimed at two county mortuaries.

The unclaimed bodies include 22 adults from the PGH Annex Mortuary and 16 adults along with 50 infants from the Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital mortuary.

The devolved unit has also released a list detailing the unclaimed bodies, along with the date and place of death.

According to County Public Health Officer George Gachomba, these bodies have been in the morgues for over three months, leading to congestion and decomposition.

“Despite numerous efforts to locate the next of kin, these individuals remain unclaimed. As a final measure, Nakuru County is preparing for the disposal of the bodies in accordance with public health regulations,” Gachomba says.

He urges any relatives, friends, or members of the public with information about the families of the deceased to come forward and claim the bodies for proper burial rites.

Gachomba notes that if the bodies remain unclaimed within the 21-day notice period, the county will proceed with the disposal at Nakuru South Cemetery.

He further notes that all efforts to trace the next of kin have been unsuccessful.

Individuals can contact the Provincial General Hospital-Annex or the Nakuru County Referral & Teaching Hospital any day of the week between 8 AM and 5 PM for more information.
