Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara has been released on a Sh50,000 bond pending the determination of whether the charge against her is defective.

The MP was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Friday, having been arrested in Nakuru by DCI officers and transferred to Nairobi.

According to Eunice Muriithi (Mama Soko), who was with the MP at the time of the arrest, the MP was hosting a delegation from the local sand mining company, with whom she was holding a consultative meeting.

"We were having our meeting. At around 3 pm, there was a loud knock at the gate. When the gate was opened, a group of officers came in and identified themselves as DCI officers from Naivasha and Nairobi,” she said.

"The MP declined to go with the officers without her lawyers present. After a while, her lawyers arrived, and they went to the Naivasha DCI offices, where she was arrested,” she says.

The ruling will be delivered by Milimani Court Senior Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi on July 29, 2025.
