Motorist plying the Nairobi Nakuru highway will have to use alternatives routes to avoid congestions as President William Ruto prepares to launch the Rironi-Mau Summit highway dualling project on Friday.

The Kenya National Highway Authority has issued a traffic advisory giving alternative routes to motorist plying the route at different sections to avoid the possible traffic congestion.

“The road is envisaged to have a significant traffic congestion for the whole day. Consequently, the Authority advises motorists intending to use this road to either reschedule their travel or use alternative routes,” read part of the circular by KeNHA dated November 26.

The alternative routes recommended are, Ngong Suswa- Narok-Mau Narok-Njoro-Nakuru and Nairobi-Thika- Magumu-Njabini-Olkalou-Nakuru.

Others are Nakuru-Kampi ya Moto-Ravine-Makutano and Nakuru-Njoro-Molo-Mau Summit.

The Rironi- Nakuru- Mau Summit highway dualling project has been the subject of discussion for years since the government announced its plans.

“We urge all motorists plying this section to either replan their journeys accordingly and any inconvenience is regretted,”

For Nakuru residents the project is significant as it is vied as the solution to the stubborn congestion along the high at various points including Gilgill, Barnabas and the entry to Nakuru town.

It is also tipped to promote exponential growth of Nakuru’s economy as well as reduce the numerous accidents along different black spots.

The launch comes as a clear indication that the project whose construction was delayed by governments long processes that threatened to stall it.
