Kenha to close section of Njoro–Mau Summit road for three weeks for repairs

Transport between Njoro, Molo and Mau Summit is set to be disrupted after the Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) announced the temporary closure of part of the B129 road between Njoro and Mau Summit to allow for pavement reconstruction.

In a notice issued on October 9, states that the road would be closed from Thursday, October 16 to November 6, 2025. The affected section lies approximately one kilometre past Keringet Factory and two kilometres before Molo Town.

During the closure, motorists using this busy route will be diverted to alternative roads. Travellers heading to Molo and Mau Summit are advised to use the Nakuru–Mau Summit (A8) road via Kibunja junction as the main diversion route.

However, Kenha has cautioned that the alternative route features a sharp curve, making it unsafe for heavy vehicles. Lorries and long trucks will therefore not be permitted to use the diversion.

The closure is expected to cause significant inconvenience to hundreds of local residents who depend on the road for their daily commutes, school runs and transporting farm produce.

The Njoro–Mau Summit route is one of the main connector between Njoro, Molo, Keringet and Mau Summit, linking traders and farmers to Nakuru City and other major markets.

According to Kenha the temporary closure is necessary to improve the road's quality and safety for long-term use.

"We appeal to all road users to bear with us during the construction period and follow the proposed traffic management plan for their safety," Acting Director General Eng Luka Kimeli says.
