Four suspects linked to the killing of three elderly residents in Rongai were on Wednesday charged before the Nakuru High court with murder.

The four faced three counts of murder against an elderly couple and one other individual in different locations in Salgaa.

In the first case, Richard Wanjala Juma, Michael Kipsang Maritim, and Elly Njuguna Kuria were jointly charged with the murder of Margaret Wambui, on November 7, 2025.

Richard Wanjala Juma who initially pleaded guilty change the plea after consulting with his counsel.

Michael Kipsang Maritim and Elly Njuguna Kuria both deny the charges.

In the second matter, the three were jointly charged alongside another Collins Wekesa Wanyonyi with the murder of 90-year-old Joseph Kihiti and his wife, Beth Rosa Wanjiku, on November 2, 2025.

The prosecution however, opposed the suspects release bond.

The DPP told the court that the accused persons were at large for months before being arrested in March 2026, and that releasing them on bond poses a real risk of a repeat disappearance.

He further notes that investigations are still ongoing and that more suspects are yet to be arrested, expressing apprehension that if released, the accused could interfere with those efforts and impede the work of investigators seeking to apprehend other suspects still at large.

The judge directed the prosecution to serve the defense within 24 hours

The judge also directed that all bond arguments across both cases will be heard together on April 24, 2026, with the accused in both matters remaining on remand until that date.
