Former Lugari Member of Parliament, Cyrus Jirongo, has died after being involved in a head on collision accident at the Karai area, at the Nairobi- Nakuru highway.
The incident was confirmed by Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Sarah Chumo.
According to reports, the former MP was involved in a head-on collision with a Climax bus travelling in the opposite direction. He sustained head injuries.
In an interview, Tiras Kamau Githinji, the driver of the Climax bus, said that the Mercedes-Benz vehicle driven by the former MP was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the collision occurred.
"I was coming from Nairobi heading to Busia. The lane in which the Mercedes-Benz was travelling had a slight traffic jam, so the driver decided to overtake the vehicles by moving into my lane, which led to the accident," he says.
The body was taken to the Naivasha sub-county morgue, but will later be moved to the Lee Funeral Home.
