Mtaa Wangu has learnt that the vehicle initially had three people who were taking it for a test drive after it had been fixed.
David Asunda, a mechanic at the garage near 7D platinum says the man who passed on was his friend Mwangi.
Asunda notes that the vehicle had an oil leak from the gear box which was fixed. No other mechanical faliure was found.
“Earlier that morning Mwangi who is not only a client but also a friend had come with his grandfather to get his grandfather’s car fixed. My son who works alongside me managed to fix their car and together they decided to take it for a test drive to see if it was well fixed,” he says.
Asunda says they left the garage and made their way along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway and then made a U-turn at Free Area and started making their way back.
“While they were near the Mediheal Hospital, Mwangi was overtaking a truck, unfortunately as he was doing so he did not manage to fully overtake it. The trailer hit the tail end of his vehicle and the force made the vehicle turn and face the opposite direction. It was then hit to the side of the road. All this while the truck also lost control and went and stopped right on top of the car,” Asunda narrates.
Asunda says, “My son who was seated next to the driver managed to escape with an injury on the knee. The grandfather too had slight injuries. However, Paul was not lucky, he lost his life in the accident.”
The road crash caused a snarl up on the busy highway but the road was eventually cleared to allow traffic flow.
