Family of missing teacher appeals for help to trace his whereabouts
On November 17 Timothy Gitonga, a former high school teacher left his home at Mwariki in Nakuru Town East and never to return.
His family has been looking for him since he went missing without success. Their greatest fear is the fact that Gitonga has been battling a mental issue that saw him quit his teaching job at Londiani Boys High School to seek treatment.
According to his wife his wife Elizabeth Gitonga the former teacher has been dealing with depression which affected his speech.
He however, has been receiving treatment and, despite losing speech, was still able to manage his daily tasks.
Elizabeth says it was normal for him to occasionally wander within Mwariki, since he always found his way back.
“He has been leaving home and wandering around Mwariki, and he often comes back — all the neighbors know him. There’s a day he even wandered to town and still returned. His memory of home is very sharp. Unfortunately, this time we can’t tell where he is or where he went,” she said.
Since his disappearance, the family has turned to social media, printed posters, reported the matter to Mwariki Police Station, and mobilized friends and relatives to search in nearby police stations and hospitals.
They are now appealing to the members of public for help in tracing him.
Elizabeth notes that her husband did not have a phone when he went missing, having stopped using it earlier. He was last seen wearing a grey Nike jacket with a hood, green khaki trousers, and black official shoes, near Stem Hotel mid-morning on the same day.
