27 candidates from Nakuru County whose names are missing in the final examination nominal roll have been given an opportunity to sit their respective examinations following intervention by education officials.

County Director of Education Victoria Mulili revealed that the ministry has made new interventions to manage cases of learners who were registered for the examinations, but their names failed to appear in the final nominal roll to sit for the exam.

In Nakuru, Mulili confirmed that 27 candidates, comprising 11 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) candidates and 16 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) candidates had been affected.

Mulili said all the candidates would sit their examinations at the county headquarters, with St Xavier’s School hosting them during the examination period.

“For the first time, at the County Director of Education level, we have been given the mandate to manage students who, for one reason or another, were not registered,” Mulili said.

The intervention seeks to ensure that learners who missed in the nominal roll are not automatically locked out of the national assessment process.

Meanwhile, Nakuru East Deputy County Commissioner Wickliffe Opiyo said the sub-county had recorded a total of 17,813 candidates across the three national assessments and examinations being administered this year.

Of these, 6,701 candidates sat the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), comprising 3,314 boys and 3,387 girls.

A further 5,933 candidates were registered for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), including 2,885 boys and 3,048 girls.

The ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations had 5,179 candidates, with 2,432 boys and 2,746 girls, according to the figures provided by the deputy county commissioner.

The sub-county has established examination centres across primary and junior school levels were 86 and 71 respectively, alongside 23 centres for KCSE candidates.

Officials said the examinations had started smoothly, with no incidents reported since the exercise began, expressing optimism that the same trend would continue until the end of the examination period.

Deputy Regional Director of Education for the Rift Valley Julius Kimando, said education officials were monitoring the examinations in Nakuru and other parts of the region to ensure they proceeded without disruptions.

He said the region, which comprises 14 counties, had intensified monitoring efforts to safeguard the administration of the KPSEA, KJSEA and KCSE examinations.

Officials also expressed confidence that contingency measures would help prevent candidates from missing examinations because of adverse weather conditions, with arrangements to ensure examination materials could reach centres affected by difficult conditions.

The measures come as education authorities seek to ensure that all eligible learners get an opportunity to complete their examinations while maintaining the integrity and security of the national assessment process.
