At least 10 people have lost their lives and several others seriously injured following a tragic night accident that occurred at Karai, in Naivasha along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

The accident involved a bus that collided head on with matatu on the night of January 4.

Emmanuel Epuru, the Nakuru County Police Commander, said the Greenline bus which was ferrying passengers from Nairobi is said to have swerved off its lane while attempting to escape an oncoming vehicle, hitting a Toyota Hiace Nanyuki Cab Shuttle.

This happened at the same spot where former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo died weeks ago.

According to Mr Opuru seven people died on the spot while three others succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment in different hospitals.

He says that more than 15 passengers are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals within Naivasha sub-county with different injuries.

"In order to facilitate traffic movement, which had already increased, officers moved swiftly to clear the area of the wreckage and tow it while survivors were rushed to different hospitals within Naivasha," notes Mr Opuru.

The County police Commander has now called upon drivers to use caution when driving to avoid losing lives through accidents.
