Will hungry Oilers dethrone Kabras as Enterprise cup kings?

As the 15s rugby season charges toward its climax, the Enterprise Cup final on April 26 is set to deliver a mouth-watering showdown between hosts Menengai Oilers and defending champions Kabras RFC.
Dubbed the Rai Derby, this final is more than a title clash, it’s a test of resilience, legacy, and rising ambition.
It has been a landmark season for the Oilers as their campaign kicked off in emphatic style with a maiden Impala Floodlit title back in November 2024, crushing Impala RFC 42-5 in the final. That win set the tone for a team hungry for silverware.
Since then, Menengai has emerged as one of the most consistent teams of 2025, reaching an incredible four finals this season alone.
They claimed victory in the Eric Shirley Shield (ESS) tournament, beating KCB RFC 15-12 after edging out Kabras 25-20 in the semis.
In the Kenya Cup, they finished runners-up after a narrow 27-26 loss to Kabras in a thrilling final held at the Kakamega Showground.
Reflecting on their play this year, it has been a season of stars and statement wins. Oilers have proven that they belong among the elite.
Star player Timothy Omela finished the Kenya Cup season as the top point Scorer with 206 points, including 8 tries, 23 penalties, and 46 conversions, a testament to both his skill and Menengai's tactical play.
Adding to their titles, they also clinched the Great Rift 10 Aside title, with standout performances throughout after beating Kabras 15-0 to secure their win.
At the 10s, they not only took the title but recorded the highest score of the tournament, thrashing Molo RFC 73-5.
On the other hand, Eric Ogutu was also named Most Valuable Player, adding to a growing list of accolades.
Now, the Oilers are preparing for the biggest stage yet, their first-ever Enterprise Cup final.
But then, there’s Kabras.
Standing in their way is the formidable Kabras RFC, a team that has ruled the Enterprise Cup with an iron grip.
This will be Kabras’ fifth consecutive finals appearance, and they are chasing their fifth consecutive win, having beaten KCB 32-20 in last year’s 2024 final and previous wins in 2023 ,2022and 2019.
Stamping their dominance in the sport they recently joined KCB, Impala and Nondies as Kenya Cup Side that have won the title four times in a row. Their experience in high-stakes games is unmatched, and they will be arriving in Nakuru not just to defend their crown, but to assert their supremacy once again.
Kabras’ road to the final this year saw them beat KCB 25-21, to book yet another finals challenge.
With Menengai’s four finals in one season, a historic ESS title, Kenya Cup runners up, 10 Aside title and their first Enterprise Cup final appearance on home turf, Oilers has an equal to challenge this weekend.
They have already toppled Kabras once this year and have built a squad brimming with momentum, and hunger.
But Kabras is no ordinary opponent. They are the reigning kings of the Enterprise Cup, bringing big-match experience and a legacy of consistency.
For them, this isn’t just about silverware, this is about cementing a legacy, or launching a new one.
