Agrrey Omiyo is the new chairman of Nakuru Football Rugby Club (RFC). This follows a successful election held at the club's annual general meeting this week.

Dan Moge was elected vice-chairman, Wesley Kidinga secretary and George Kinuthia treasurer of the club.

Announcing the news on their Facebook page, the club wrote: "We are delighted to announce the results of Nakuru RFC's Annual General Meeting held on the 2nd of April. Following a democratic process, a new leadership team has been elected to take our beloved club into the future."

The club also paid tribute to the outgoing officials - Chairman Denis Ratemo, his deputy Antony Maina, Treasurer Josiah Mwangi and Secretary Edward Moseti for their dedication and service to Nakuru RFC.

According to outgoing secretary Moseti, the elections were held after the completion of the two-year term (2022/2023 and 2023/2024) as stipulated in the club's constitution.

"We have had a great run in our two-year term. We have hosted the national team twice at our home ground and also acquired a new club kit during this period. We are now rallying behind the new officials and extending our support to ensure that the club's legacy and success lives on," says Moseti.

However, he is quick to point out that this has not been without its challenges, as the club has struggled financially due to a lack of stable sponsorship.

Despite this, he says the boys have given their best in every game they have played and finished seventh in the Kenya Cup season, which comes to an end this weekend.

Meanwhile, the club will host the Great Rift 10 Aside Rugby Festival on 13 April.

According to club secretary Wesley Kidinga, the tournament will be played in a 16-team format.

Ten teams have already confirmed their participation, including defending 10-a-side champions KCB, who clinched the title after beating hosts Nakuru RFC.

He also notes that this year's 10-a-side tournament will be played in one day as opposed to the three-day event in previous years.

"We were supposed to have the age-grade boys and girls teams play on Friday and the men's challenge from Saturday to Sunday. However, changes have been made and this year's tournament will only take place on Saturday with the men's team playing on the field," he notes.

Aside from the Great Rift 10, other notable tournaments to be played under the new officials include the Rugby Super Series, where Nakuru will host and team up with rivals Menengai Oilers and Homeboyz to form the Cheetahs, who will take on the Rhinos, Lions and Buffaloes in a bid to attract top players to the national sevens team.

The team will also be instrumental in organising the 6th leg of the Kenya Cup, the Prinsloo 7s, to be held in September.
