The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has announced changes to the venues of some of the upcoming fixtures on the rugby calendar.
In a notice released by the Competitions Desk following an internal review and a meeting of the Leagues and Fixtures Committee, several adjustments have been made to the originally scheduled venues and dates of key matches.
Rai Derby set for Enterprise Cup final in Nakuru. The Enterprise Cup final, originally scheduled to be played at the RFUEA grounds, will now be hosted by Menengai Oilers at their home ground, the refinery, ASK Showground in Nakuru.
While the date remains the same (April 26), this year's final promises to be a firework display as it features a mouth-watering Rai Derby showdown between Menengai Oilers and Kabras Sugar, two teams backed by companies under the Rai Group umbrella.
With pride and titles on the line, this match is expected to attract massive local support and provide some top class rugby action.
For the Kenya Cup Women's Final and Mwamba Cup Final, the RFUEA Grounds were originally set to host not only the Enterprise Cup final, but also the Kenya Cup Women's Final and the Mwamba Cup Final on the same day.
However, logistical challenges and unforeseen circumstances have led to a change of venue:
The Kenya Cup Women's Final and the Mwamba Cup Final will now be played at the Goan Institute Grounds on the original date of April 26.
In perhaps the most notable change, the Eric Shirley Shield (ESS) final was originally scheduled to be played in Kakamega alongside the prestigious Kenya Cup final on April 12. It has now been brought forward to April 5 and will be played at the Lions Den in Ruaraka, home of KCB Rugby Club.
The move sets up a high stakes clash as Menengai Oilers prepare to take on Bankers on their home turf.
In an official statement, Kevin Odhiambo Wambura, the KRU Competitions Admin, apologised for any inconvenience caused and urged all stakeholders to take note of the revised arrangements.
He also wished the participating teams the best of luck and looked forward to a lively turnout at the new venues.
As fans adjust their travel plans and expectations, one thing remains the same: the promise of exciting rugby action. Whether in Ruaraka, Nakuru or Goan Institute, the passion for the game continues to unite fans and players alike.
