FC 105 Naivasha Starlets' journey has been one of resilience, growth and determination. Founded five years ago with the support of Nini Farm and initially operating under the name FC 105 Nini Farm, the team has made its mark on the local football scene. However, when they earned promotion to the National Super League (NSL) last season, their sponsor withdrew due to company policy, leaving the team at a crossroads.

Instead of watching their dream collapse, the local community and the board of management rallied around the players. Their support not only kept the team alive, but also gave it a new identity. Rebranded as FC 105 Naivasha Starlets, the club is now proud to be Naivasha’s only girls' team competing at such a high level.

Head coach Tabitha Kariuki says that the decision to keep the team going was inspired by the players’ growth and the visibility that they have brought to the town.

“Most of our players are from Naivasha, although we have also welcomed others from places like Kakamega. Their progress has been remarkable, and we couldn’t let that go to waste,” she explains.

The Starlets’ debut in the NSL was both challenging and rewarding. Despite facing seasoned opponents, they performed well and finished eighth , an impressive result for newcomers. Ms Kariuki says the experience taught the team valuable lessons.

"We learned the importance of preparation, training and exposure. This season, we’ve improved our physical, mental and technical readiness,” she adds.

The team has big dreams. Their immediate goal is to qualify for the Kenya Premier League, and their long-term vision is to establish an academy to nurture future talent. They already have success stories to their name: one former player now plays professionally in Greece, while another recently joined Kayole FC in the Kenya Premier League.

Their track record includes producing a national team player, winning the Naivasha Champions League and lifting the FA Cup , milestones that Ms Kariuki says prove the Starlets are one of the most promising teams in the region.

However, challenges remain. Travel to away fixtures, particularly those in Busia and Kakamega, puts a strain on their budget. Limited funds also make it difficult to acquire basic necessities such as balls, training kits and uniforms.

“Travel is expensive, and equipment is always an issue. But despite these challenges, we are fully ready for the new NSL season and are determined to earn promotion," says Ms Kariuki firmly.

Nakuru County currently has two teams in the National Super League, with FC 105 Naivasha Starlets standing as a symbol of perseverance, community spirit and ambition.
