Space Next Door has issued a press release addressing the backlash after a video of its hostesses dancing, dressed in an outfit widely likened to a Primary school uniform, sparked outrage online.

In the statement, shared through the club’s social media pages, the management distanced itself from the negative interpretations being made, saying the intention was purely creative.

“We would like to clarify that at no point do we promote or endorse any of the claims being associated with this video. We recognize that the timing of its release was unfortunate given the current situation in the country,” reads part of the press release.

The club explained that it runs themed nights featuring different professions, with hostesses in the past dressing as nurses, chefs, or mechanics.

However, in this case, management did not specify which role the controversial outfit was meant to represent.

The apology also stressed Space Next Door’s commitment to creating “fun, engaging, and respectful experiences” while celebrating everyday professions in an entertaining way.

Even so, the reaction online has remained heated. The video, though pulled down from the club’s platforms, continues to circulate, with critics arguing that the hostess’s attire strongly resembles school uniforms for primary school children.

One netizen, @Beccah's_worldlUGC, expressed her disappointment, particularly linking the timing of the video to the Mai Mahiu child trafficking sex scandal which was partly centered around an entertainment joint. The children exploitation video stirred nationwide anger and grief.

To this, some netizens are questioning how the said theme is meant to attract clients to a club and termed it an insensitive thing to do having that the video went through several people before it was published.

However, not everyone shares the same school of thought, some netizens note that that is creative expression and should be allowed stating no law restricts it.

Despite the clarification, the debate continues among Nakuru residents and beyond, with many urging the club to show greater sensitivity in how it crafts and communicates its themes, especially during a period when the country is confronting sensitive issues around child exploitation.
