Nakuru is slowly warming up to the weekend, and if the week has been feeling a little too long, this might just be the perfect moment to step outside and catch a vibe. The city may move at its own pace during the weekdays, but once the weekend knocks, Nakuru people know exactly how to answer.

The energy starts building early in the week with business and networking at the Bizlink Trade Expo, happening from March 5 to 7 at Rift Valley Sports Club. The multi-sector exhibition brings together entrepreneurs, innovators and investors under the theme “Connecting Markets, Driving Enterprise Growth.”

For local businesses, this expo is more than just booths and banners. It is a space where biashara owners showcase products, pitch ideas and create partnerships that could shape the next phase of growth. From agriculture and manufacturing to technology and hospitality, the event attracts industry players from across the region. In simple terms, it is where conversations start and opportunities follow.

But if business conversations are not your thing and you are more about adventure, the outdoors is also calling.

Adventure lovers are already preparing for an early start with the popular hike at Mount Longonot. The plan is simple: wake up early, lace up your hiking shoes and join a group ready to tackle the trails. It is not just about climbing the mountain. Somewhere between the steep paths and the breathtaking views at the crater rim, strangers become friends. By the time hikers are standing at the top looking across the Great Rift Valley, the sweat and laughter suddenly make sense. That is the kind of experience that reminds people why the phrase “Tembea Kenya” still hits differently.

Closer to the city, another trail continues to attract weekend explorers at Menengai Crater. Just a short drive from town, the massive volcanic crater offers an escape without the need for long travel plans. The trail winds through caves and rocky paths before opening up to sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. Cameras come out, conversations slow down and for a moment everyone just stands still, soaking in the silence of one of Nakuru’s most dramatic natural landmarks.

Back in the city, the weekend adrenaline shifts to sport as Menengai Oilers host MMUST RFC at Nakuru Show Group (The Refinery). Rugby fans are expected to turn up in numbers as the home team looks to defend their turf in the Kenya Cup clash. The refinery atmosphere is always electric, fans chanting and every try sending the crowd into celebration.

Then as the sun dips on Saturday, the city shifts from sports to music and nostalgia at Arthur Gardens, where the Soul Rhapsody Rendezvous brings together lovers of 90s and early 2000s music for a throwback experience. With DJs spinning classics and a dress code of bandanas and sunglasses, the event promises a relaxed but lively vibe.

Put it all together and Nakuru’s weekend feels perfectly balanced, business connections, outdoor adventure, sports thrills and music vibes.

So, whether you are hiking a mountain, cheering at a rugby match or dancing to old school hits, one thing is clear: the city is alive this weekend.
