Jane Wangechi didn’t expect attending a Naxouse event in Nakuru to change the course of her life.

Known on stage as Aries DJ, she recalls being instantly drawn to the music the rhythm, the unity of the crowd, and the energy that pulsed through the venue.

“It was the first time I truly felt at home,” she says with a smile, reminiscing about the night that marked the beginning of her journey into house music.

That first experience watching DJs like 7Dusks play her favourite Amapiano tracks, sparked something within her. She found herself gravitating toward the DJ booth, fascinated by the blend of rhythm, emotion, and connection that defined every performance.

A long-time lover of Amapiano, Aries decided to take her passion a step further. What began as admiration soon turned into a calling. With determination and countless hours of practice, she began crafting her sound, a seamless fusion of deep house and Amapiano, defined by smooth, groovy, and soulful undertones.

Naxouse, she says, played a key role in shaping her artistry. “It’s more than just an event; it’s a community that nurtures creativity and emotion. House music, at its core, is about feeling and that’s what I aim to bring out in every set,” She says.

Breaking into the industry was not easy. As a woman in a male-dominated field, Wangechi had to prove herself through persistence and consistency. Her efforts have since paid off, earning her slots at major events and a growing fan base that celebrates her distinct style.

Performing at events she once attended as a fan feels surreal. “It’s a full-circle moment every time I step behind the decks,” she says.

Away from the stage, Wangechi balances her creative life with personal growth, guided by faith and mindfulness. Before every set, she takes a deep breath, whispers a short prayer, and lets the music take over. Her favourite track, Abantwana Bakho, remains a spiritual anchor in her performances.

She believes Nakuru’s house music scene is on an upward trajectory, powered by young talent and a supportive community. Her dream is to collaborate with other local DJs and producers to push the city’s sound to national and global stages.

Her advice to aspiring DJs? “Stay consistent, keep learning, and never doubt your path. Every small step counts.”
