Afraha stadium remains one of the most iconic land marks in Nakuru City.

For over 70 years, the stadium has played host to sporting events, national celebrations and political rallies.

The most famous one to date being the political rally that gave birth to the Jubilee Party.

For the residents in Nakuru, the stadium has a special place in their hearts and therefore in 2021 when news broke that the stadium was going to receive a facelift and an upgrade to international standards, it was received with much delight.

However, the upgrade that was supposed to last for one year has now gone on for the last three years leaving many wondering, when exactly will the stadium be complete?

In the latest episode of The Podium, Mtaa Wangu sought to seek answers to this question, bringing in a wide array of opinions from different shareholders.

The conversation did not end there. The topic also took centre stage in Mtaa Wangu’s social media platforms.

On the YouTube comment section, the sentiments varied from thanking Mtaa Wangu for highlighting the matter to some pertinent questions being raised with regards to the topic at hand.

@peterrono1037 raised a question with regards to the funding of the said project.

I thought it was a World Bank project, was there a budgetary contribution from the County Govt to the project? The budget was approved in June 2023. World Bank funds are conditional grants to counties that should go directly to its purpose.”

@saijichris also raised a similar concern.

Which budget approval? Pesa ya World Bank iliisha? The reporter should have asked this question.”

On Facebook there seemed to be a confusion among the users on the status of the project.

Kellyson Peter seemed to give assurance on the project.

“It’s almost done……….”.

Kenneth C Kipngetich did not seem to be sure at the current status of the renovations.

Kwani it’s completed?”

Ben Mash seemed to engage in a conversation with Hussan Hussein who was one of the interviewee’s in the documentary.

“Ben Mash we will wait patiently.”

Ben Mash replied to him by saying, “akuna lingine.”

For Davi Dave, “the Afraha stadium remains the best stadium in Nakuru and among the best stadia we have in Kenya.”

From the discussions, it is clear the completion of Afraha Stadium remains something that most of the residents are waiting upon eagerly.
