Nakuru Walk Movement, best known for its routine fitness walks across the city, is expanding its scope with a mix of activities designed to cater to a wider audience, with this weekend’s “Nakuru Fun Day” taking center stage.

Set for April 11 at Himaya Gardens Resort, the Fun Day marks a shift from the group’s usual structured walks to a more relaxed, social experience. However, organizers are keen to emphasize that the event is not a departure from their core mission, but rather a complement to it.

“This is an addition, not a replacement,” a coordinator explains. “The walks will continue, but we are also creating space for people who want a different kind of engagement.”

The Fun Day will feature activities such as aqua zumba, team-building sessions, games, and access to a swimming pool, offering participants a balance between leisure and light physical activity. It is designed to strengthen social connections among members while maintaining the wellness aspect that defines the movement.

At the same time, Nakuru Walk Movement continues to run its regular fitness walks across different routes in the city, which have steadily gained popularity among residents seeking affordable and accessible ways to stay active. These walks remain the backbone of the initiative, attracting both seasoned participants and newcomers.

Beyond fitness, the group is part of a wider wave of community-driven events shaping Nakuru’s social scene this weekend.

On the same day, April 11, a charity outreach event will be held at Dream City Grounds, organized by the Tony Mutume Foundation. The initiative aims to support street-connected children through the distribution of food, clothing, shoes, and sanitary items. Organizers say the event is designed to bring together members of the public in a shared effort to give back, connect, and uplift vulnerable children.

The outreach will also feature live performances, create a lively and welcoming atmosphere while advancing its core mission of compassion and impact, a blend of entertainment and social responsibility.

Meanwhile, other initiatives such as the Central Rift Education Expo and the Nakuru Women in Business Club’s Mother’s Day campaign continue to highlight the growing diversity of events in the county, spanning education, entrepreneurship, and social empowerment.

Organizers of the Nakuru Fun Day say this broader ecosystem of activities reflects a community that is increasingly active, engaged, and interconnected.

On Sunday, April 12,  Nancy Ndegwa, Mama Street, will also commemorate the International Day for Street Children under the global theme "Protect, Not Punish." with street children joining in.
