Lee Kinyanjui reacts to his CS nomination by President Ruto
Former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has responded to President Ruto's nomination of him as the Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry. In a post on Facebook, Kinyanjui expressed his gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in him.
"For God and country, I accept the honor of being appointed to serve our nation as Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry," Kinyanjui wrote. He continued, "I take this opportunity to thank the President for demonstrating confidence in my ability to steer this critical portfolio. As always, integrity, respect for the Constitution and honesty will guide my actions."
His post sparked a range of reactions from netizens, some offering congratulations and words of encouragement, while others criticized the decision. Some advised him to focus on delivering solutions despite the difficult political climate.
"Thank you for accepting the nomination. Great leaders don't run from challenges, they face them head on," said Joseph Maina. "But remember, you are there to provide solutions. I know it's difficult with a government that faces challenges, but Kibaki served Moi and was named the best minister. Do something different. All the best."
Denis Wekesa simply said, "Congratulations, sir.
Soila wa Maela added, "Good that you've accepted the nomination, make a difference."
"Congratulations Bwana CS, I think you're the right person. You did it in Nakuru. God help you," said Moseax.
Other well-wishers like Grace Koi Karuga Karuga shared their support saying, "Congratulations! The majority who criticize you had a chance to elect you for a second term. Go out and serve the nation. Kenya is bigger than any one individual. I believe in your leadership and wish you all the best."
Some critics, however, expressed concern about Kinyanjui's decision to accept the nomination and urged him to reconsider.
"Kenyans, many of them have the utmost respect for you. We, the people of Nakuru, were deeply disappointed when you lost the seat to Susan. Kenyans will be happy if you keep your good image and refuse to join this government. It is not for God and the country. God doesn't support leaders who hurt their people or engage in corruption," said Ben Kioko Wakilukumi.
Wangai Peter, another critic, said, "You cannot sleep with dogs and not get fleas! You've written your political obituary with your own hands."
Mr Kinyanjui is scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee for vetting on January 14, 2024.
