A peek into Nakuru governor's new Milimani office
To what seems like a complete structure, the building is painted all white with many large blue windows and a brownish roof that stands majestically in Nakuru’s Milimani estate.
This is the Governor’s Milimani Annex office.
Previously, to see the office, you would have to strain your neck or move a bit closer to the gate where you’d be met with harsh eyes from plain-clothed security personnel manning the area.
Now, the entrance, painted white, to the residence speaks for itself as it tries to compete in size with the office, with two grilled gates, painted black. One for vehicle entrances and a separate smaller gate designated for pedestrians.
When the building’s ground-breaking ceremony happened in February 2021 led by former Governor Lee Kinyanjui, it was expected that the deadline for completion would be in a year and a half’s time.
Now, three years later, Mtaa Wangu can confirm that the office is ready for occupancy, with sources revealing that Governor Susan Kihika is expected to move in ‘any time now.’
The County government has allocated significant funds for the construction of the Governor’s Office and the Deputy Governor’s Office in the upcoming fiscal years.
According to the county’s budget estimates for the 2023/2024 financial year (MTEF BUDGET 2023/2024 – 2025/2026) a document uploaded on the official county website, shows a combined total of Sh. 85,467,176 has been set aside for the project.
The allocation is expected to increase in the following years, with projected estimates of Sh. 94,013,894 for 2024/2025 and Sh. 103,415,283 for 2025/2026.
According to another document on the organization's website- the Nakuru County Approved Budget Estimates for FY 2022/2023 allocates Sh. 62,858,516 for the development of the Office of the Governor and Deputy Governor
Mtaa Wangu could not independently verify the exact amount of money spent so far.
