Hey hiking lovers! Here are alternatives to outdoor activities this rainy season
Has the ongoing rain sent your hiking activities into hibernation? Don’t wait until it's sunny to be active.
Having a consistent workout routine can help ward off the blues, boost energy, and prevent unwanted weight if you find yourself more house-bound during this season.
According to Nakuru Fitness Coordinator John Kilimo, it is inevitable to have most hikes cancelled because of the prolonged rains in most parts of the country, but the rainy weather doesn’t mean you should give up on an exercise routine.
Getting out of the house for some exercise around your neighbourhood even with the gloomy weather can be mood-lifting.
“Getting outside, even in the cold, allows us to reconnect with nature, break away from the digital and concrete world, this can help boost your creativity,” says Kilimo.
He advises that those who love hiking can keep themselves fit by joining the gym to keep up with their fitness, as most people might feel like they are losing themselves since they are used to having hikes every weekend.
Kilimo notes that people can identify safe routes near their homes that they can use to do jogging and walks to avoid routes constantly affected by flash floods.
He adds that you can team up with friends and explore new indoor activities that can also reignite that sense of productivity and fulfilment.
Festus Musyoka a salsa instructor at Players Theatre notes that you don’t necessarily need to have an outdoor activity to feel productive as there are a lot of activities available.
“You can decide to team up with your friends and call a salsa instructor or enrol in a dance class and learn how to dance and start a new hobby,” he notes.
Musyoka also adds that one can feel active by doing yoga, skipping rope, and simple exercises in the comfort of their home.
With the internet, the world is your oyster.
