The tedious roles of the 'responsible' guy in every boy squad

In every girl group there is said to be that girl who is the mother of the group as my colleague Diligence Odongo once put it.

With respect to the guys this is the case too, but we would not call him the father of the group, father is such a strong term. Let’s just say he is the care taker of his squad.

Whenever a group of guys go out for a night of fun, there is usually that one guy who is charged with the responsibility of taking care of the group.

One would ask how do they come about getting this duty. Well, in every friend group there are different people with different personalities. The anti-social guy more often than not finds himself with this responsibility.

Well, that is what I think because in my guy squad that guy is a 29-year-old man whose name is James Ng’ang’a.

Even though we hate to admit it, we feel safer when James is around especially when we are at 7D tukianguka nayo

This is because he would be the guy we would leave to guard our drinks at the table as the three of us club hop and move from 7D to Space and back, while we socialize and make merry with other night dwellers.

All this while, he would be seated at the same spot alternating between sipping his drink, scrolling through his phone and just nodding his head as the music plays on.

By the time the early morning starts kicking in, it is time to retire to our homes.

I would have to admit that by this time, most of us are tired and tipsy some more than others of course.

As you may know, alcohol bring the worst out of all of us. There are numerous times he has found himself having to apologize for fights we have found ourselves in.

The memory to support the answer of who starts these fights is a bit hazy I’ll admit.

Nevertheless, James contends with all that and makes sure we carpool since we live in the same estate, and find our way home safely.

To other guys like James, pewa mbili!!
