Why George's pork house closed its doors in Nakuru

Located along Tom Mboya Street opposite Hotel Cathay, where George's Pork Garden Bar and Restaurant once stood, is now a new nyama choma joint. This is hard to miss due to the branding on the building.
George's Pork House was once the go-to spot for anyone craving pork and a drink to wind down the day. However, it closed its doors three months ago after seven years of operation.
Speaking to the director, Anthony Njoroge, he explains that the decision to shut down the restaurant was due to a buildup of several challenges over time.
"Opposite the restaurant, there is a construction project that made the area extremely dusty. As a result, customers started avoiding the place," he says.
In addition, Njoroge notes that the overall business environment had become increasingly difficult, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the closure, he says the restaurant left a lasting impression. "We had a great run. Even now, we still receive phone calls for deliveries — some not just from Nakuru, but from people passing through town who want to stop over," he shares proudly.
However, Njoroge reveals that there are currently no plans to reopen, and if they do revive the business, it won’t be in Nakuru.
"We’re not planning to open another shop anytime soon. But if we do, it will definitely not be in Nakuru it’s becoming harder and harder to do business here," he says.
The establishment joins a long list of businesses that have closed down in Nakuru this year including stagematt chap chap, stagematt stage and culture mambo just to name a few.
