Vera Technical Training college, Njoro campus is facing auction over Sh 650,000 rent arrears.
The Tribunal Court in Nairobi in its ruling dated April 15 allowed Eveready Auctioneers to distress for rent for the sum of the amount against the institution for the accrued rent arrears of five months.
The tribunal upon terminating the tenant – Landlord relationship between the premise owner Francis Mwaura and the institution, allowed him to break into the premises and remove the institution’s items from the premises to store in his space.
The tribunal directed the Officer Commanding Njoro Police station to provide security and take inventory during the process.
Mr Mwaura filed the case before the tribunal accusing the institution of refusing to pay rent for five months.
The landlord told the court that the institution continued dodging rent payment despite closing the shop with its items locked inside.
According to Mr Mwaura, the institution has defaulted to pay rent since October 2024. The rent is paid at Sh 130,000 monthly.
As at February 28, the total sum of the arrears stood at Sh 650,000.
He expressed apprehension of losing the money noting that the items owned by the institution were not enough to meet the amount.
“The landlord is apprehensive that if the respondent continues unabated, he will lose money since the tenant’s items are not enough even if distress was to be levied,” read part of the affidavit.
The magistrate Patrick Kitur further awarded Mr Mwaura the cost of the suit.
