UDA confirms Keringet MCA Mutai as majority leader
Keringet Member of County Assembly is the new majority leader after the United Democratic Alliance stamped its authority over the matter.
The party in its communication to majority Chief Whip Fadhili Msuri acknowledged the election of Mr William Mutai by the party members after ousting the Mosop ward representative Alex Lagat.
Mr Lagat who has served in the position for two years was ousted by the majority MCAs who accused him of incompetence.
In the letter signed by UDA secretary general Hassan Omar, the party urged the MCAs to focus on fostering unity for the benefit of the house's business.
“The party acknowledges receipt of communication regarding the said changes and equally acknowledges the same and further guides that the members strive to foster cohesion in the assembly in order to realise the legislative agenda of the party in Nakuru,” read part of the letter.
Speaking to Mtaa wangu on phone call, the chief Whip expressed his satisfaction with the party’s decision which he said was long overdue.
According to the Biashara ward representative, the party had summoned the MCAs to the headquarters to address the matter after the court dismissed a case filed by Mr Lagat challenging his ouster.
“Following the communication by the party, it is now clear that Mutai is our majority leader. We do not expect any resistance from the other team in order to proceed with the house business,” said Mr Fadhili.
He noted that the speaker is expected to make communication on the same once the Assembly resumes on Tuesday.
The assembly has been rocked by leadership wrangles that have stalled the business for close to two months.
The wrangles began during the botched attempt to impeach the County secretary Samwel Mwaura which saw the MCAs direct their blame to the then majority leader.
And in the ouster motion filed on September, at least 31 out of the 54 MCAs voted for the removal of Mr Lagat.
