Two suspects accused of killing PCEA reverend detained for 21 days
Felix Okumu and Beryl Nafula when they appeared before a Nakuru court on May 11, 2026, over the murder of Tabuga PCEA parish reverend Julius Ndumia on May 3,2026.
A Nakuru Court has granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigation 21 days to hold two suspects linked to the murder of Tabuga PCEA parish Rev Julias Ndumia.
The two Beryl Nafula and Felix Okumu who appeared before a Nakuru Senior Resident Magistrate are under investigation for the murder of Reverend Ndumia on May 3.
The police had sought to be allowed to detain the suspects for 30 days to conclude their investigations before charging them.
The investigating officer Geoffrey Tegei told the court that the police intend to collect the suspect’s DNA samples and forward them to the government chemist for testing.
“We need to take DNA samples from the accused in order to compare it against the DNA exhibits collected at the scene,” he told the court
The officer further notes that they recovered the deceased phone and his sim card from the suspects which they need to take to the forensic lab to have them analyzed.
“The Forensic analysis will allow us to link the suspicious M-pesa transaction that were executed from the deceased phone. We also need to collect the call data of the suspects and that of the deceased to see whether it may link us to more suspects,” he explains.
Additionally, he notes that as part of the investigation they will have to analyze the CCTV footage recovered from the scene crime
While acknowledging the two suspects (Nafula and Okumu) were arrested on May 8 ,2026 they had not yet been interrogated.
“When the two were arrested, we did not have the time to interrogate them and record their statements under the inquiry. We will also conduct an identification parade,” the investigating officer notes.
The court however, declined the request to have the suspects held for 30 days but instead granted the police 21 days.
“Having considered all the above, therefore I decline the grant of the 30 days sought by the investigating officer. However, as the respondents have not initially objected to the 30 days, I will grant the prosecution only 21 days to detain the respondents. They will be held at the Menengai police station,” the magistrate noted.
The case will be mentioned on June 3,2026.
