Tracing last moments of 20-year-old woman found dead in Subukia

20-year-old Wanjiru Ng'ang'a whose body was found in a ditch in Subukia on April 17,2025.
When Wanjiru Ng’ang’a left home on Thursday morning, April 17, no one knew it would be her last day on earth.
Wanjiru had been a mechanical student for the last four months prior to her death.
She had perfected the skill so much, that she managed to get a job in a motorcycle garage in Kiboronjo, Subukia Sub County.
That morning, her mother recalls Wanjiru bidding her goodbye at around 8 am before making her way to work where she spent all day.
According to Wanjiru’s colleagues, when evening came, she went to a local shop and bought a few items that she would take home to her mother before proceeding home.
It was now 6:30 pm, and the rain was pounding heavily, forcing her to seek shelter as she waited for the rains to subside.
“Her colleagues who were with her said that she kept insisting she wanted to get home early . So as the rains continued, she grew impatient and decided to run in the rain,” Muthoni, Wanjiru’s sister narrates.
Seeing the usual route flooded, Wanjiru opted to take another route home which is slightly longer and less populated.
“Some of the people along the road told us they saw her running in the rain with a shopping bag in hand,” she continues.
“Shiro lives with our mother at home and so by 7:30 pm when she had not made it home, my mother started getting worried because it was unlike her. As the hours continued my mother became more concerened so she called on a few neighbours and they started looking for her,” she says.
Their search, which went late into the night, did not bare any fruit. Early the next day, Wanjiru’s mother went to the Kiboronjo police station to file a missing person’s report.
“After that she decided to follow the route that Shiro used, looking through the bushes in that area. That was when she saw Wanjiru’s turban. When she looked deeper in the ditch, she saw Shiro's body lying there,” she sobs as she speaks.
Muthoni says Wanjiru had her hands over her head and she did not have her shoes on but still had her work apron on. However, the money and shopping she had on her were missing.
Wanjiru’s death sent shock waves across Nakuru prompting a statement from Governor Susan Kihika who condoled with the family.
A post-mortem will be conducted today (Tuesday) to determine the real cause of Wanjiru’s death.
