Residents of Ngala estate may be forced to look for temporary shelter after rain water flooded their homes following a down pour on Monday evening.

Caroline Murige a resident in the area laments about the poor state of drainage which she claims is the cause of the flooding.

"I built this apartments 15 years ago and I have always complained about the poor drainage system in this place. Due to the lack of proper drainage systems, most of the rain water coming from the neighbouring estates and even the city centre finds its way to our homes," she says.

Caroline paints a sad picture of how some of those living there have had to relocate as their homes are flooded.

"There are those who were in their houses when it started raining and they had to salvage what they simply could and then leave. Additionally, this water poses a very huge health risk as it brings with it water borne diseases" she says.

She explains how this situation will now force her to dig deeper into her pockets and hire individuals who will help remove the rain water from her apartment.

Anton Kerote, another resident, says that this is the fourth time this year they are experiencing such an incident, thus feeling helpless.

"We have constantly raised the issue of poor drainage with the area Member of County Assembly (MCA) and Member of Parliament (MP) but the issue seems to have fallen on deaf ears since even though the incident has occurred severally no assistance has come our way," he laments.

He urges the leadership to take action on the matter because they keep living in constant fear every time it rains.

Last week, the meteorological department announced that Nakuru would experience above normal rain beginning September to December.
