President William Ruto has officially launched the affordable housing units in Bondeni.

Speaking at the event where six families were handed the keys to their new homes, President Ruto said the project is aimed at empowering the hustlers.

"Through this affordable housing, we will be able to create jobs for the youth and also provide housing, which has been one of the key agendas of the Kenya Kwanza government," said President Ruto.

The Head of State reiterated that he intends to keep his promise to build 10,000 affordable housing units.

"We will use the land around Dog Section area and pipeline to build more affordable housing units, this programme is very beneficial to the common Mwananchi and that is where I will stand firm and not be shaken by those who want to derail the government's efforts," said Dr Ruto.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was also present, echoed the President's sentiments.

"We ask you our President to continue on the path you have embarked on to enrich and empower the lives of Kenyans and even if they go to court, the President will continue with the development projects," Mr Gachagua said.

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika was also present at the launch.

Construction of the Sh2 billion affordable housing project in Bondeni stared in 2021 financed by Kings Sapphire Developers, a subsidiary of Royal Group Industries.

The units consist of two and three bedroom houses priced at Sh3,150,000 and Sh4,250,000 respectively.

The construction of these houses, the first of their kind in Nakuru, is aimed at giving the Bondeni area a new smart look.

The government issued a notice in January inviting members of the public to submit their bids for the purchase of the houses.
