Ruto flags off contrustion of the Rironi–Mau Summit Highway, with a fresh list of promises for Nakuru people
President William Ruto launched the dualling of the 175 km Rironi–Mau Summit Road in Nakuru County on November 28, 2025.
As the crowd gathered to witness the official launch of construction of the Rironi-Mau Summit Road by President William Ruto, anticipation filled the air as the Head of State delivered his speech. The main theme of his speech was 'I promised, and I delivered'.
He mentioned the numerous promises he had made to the Nakuru electorate during the campaign period, and how he had delivered on them.
The Afraha Stadium has been a contentious issue for much of this year. At the start of the year, there were complaints about the stadium's prolonged closure, and the constant public outcry that ensued led to its reopening.
Soon after, the stadium came to life, hosting a variety of sporting events. However, everyone knew this was only temporary, as only the first phase of the project had been completed.
Earlier this month, the stadium was closed again to allow the second phase of construction to resume. The President confirmed that the site had been handed over to the contractor and that a total of KES 550 million would be used.
“The Afraha Stadium will be completed by 2027, just in time for the Madaraka Day celebrations in June,” he stated.
Dr Ruto also talked on the the trauma centre at Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital which is a stalled project.
Construction of the hospital halted due to poor coordination between the national and county governments.
Construction began just as devolution was taking shape in Kenya in 2012, leaving the project in limbo as neither the national nor county governments undertook its completion.
After 14 long years, the President has promised to complete and equip the trauma centre.
"The trauma centre, which has been stalled for over 14 years, has resumed and will cost a total of Sh300 million. It will be completed within the next three months," he said.
At the launch of the Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Road, the President promised jobs to young people in Nakuru and revealed that construction would be completed by 2027.
Governor Susan Kihika also seized the opportunity to thank the President for announcing the tender for the construction of the Salgaa–Nessuit–Bomet road, and to confirm plans for a Level 6 hospital.
