Road construction between Westside Mall and D n D complex along West Road to be completed today
The area between Westside Mall and the D&D complex along West Road is expected to be reopened to motorists on Sunday.
The section had been closed since May 26 to allow for the reconstruction of the badly worn areas.
According to the contractor, Ezekiel Ole Seitore, much of the work has been completed and the road could be reopened on Sunday.
"The road is currently under reconstruction. We started by grading the existing road, which was in bad shape, to pave the way for the reconstruction. As a result, the road had to be closed to motorists," Mr Seitore said.
"We expect to tarmac the road there on Saturday and hopefully open it on Sunday. Motorists should be able to use the road from Monday," he said.
Even as the contractors rush to complete the work, some of the businesses along the stretch have been affected by the closure of the road.
John Kamau, the owner of X treemz car wash, says the ongoing construction has dealt a heavy blow to his business.
"Since the road was inaccessible to most motorists, the flow of vehicles to our car wash was low. At times we were forced to close as early as 2pm, whereas we operate until 11pm. Staff morale has also been affected as their daily income has decreased," he said.
"We have been forced to send some people home temporarily until the construction is finished. I hope the road will be completed," he said.
Bodaboda operators have also finding it difficult to reach customers.
