Power finally restored in Free Area
Electricity has finally been restored in Free Area after a week-long blackout caused by a faulty transformer.
The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) replaced the faulty transformer, bringing relief to residents and businesses in the estate.
Bernard Kamuren, the Operational Maintenance Engineer at KPLC Nakuru, confirmed that the issues was resolved on January 4.
“We have replaced the faulty transformer. This was the first time the area experienced such an issue,” Mr Kamuren says.
Local businesses welcomed the restoration of power. David Ng'ang’a, owner of Mjengo Hardware, noted that electricity was back when they reopened on January 6.
“We were really struggling during the outage, so it's a huge relief to have power back,” he said.
However, he clarified that the power was still out when they closed on January 4.
Samuel Kamau, who runs Lucky Autospares and a small hotel in the area, confirmed that electricity was restored on January 4 at around 7 PM.
“We had power restored on December 4, around 7 PM,” Mr. Kamau said.
Residents have been advised to report any ongoing or future power issues using the USSD code *977# for quicker assistance.
This comes after a similar outage occurred less than five months ago in Mawanga, Bahati sub-county.
