Residents of Emboita in Whitehouse were on Sunday evening shocked after a police officer was found dead in his rental house.

The 37-year-old officer has been identified as constable Francis Wahome.

According to Nakuru East Sub county police commander Martin Wekesa, the deceased was last seen on Friday evening.

He said that neighbours were attracted by foul smell and flies coming from his house informing the landlord.

It was then that the landlord called officers who broke into the house only to find the body lying on his bed.

The officer was based at Teachers Police station.

Mr Wekesa added that the cause of death remains unknown until an autopsy is carried out.

"The last time the deceased was seen alive was on Friday. neighbours were the ones who informed us of a pungent smell which led us to breaking in leading us to discover the body" he said.

Neighbours who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the officer would arrive at his home drunk most of the time.
